Women and Social Media: Chanelle’s post is live!

by Margie Clayman

I’m very very excited to tell you that post number two for the Women and Social Media Series is now live!

Chanelle Schneider, who is a leader on Twitter via her Gen Y chat, interviewed three women in the “baby boomer” age group. The conversation that ensues about looking for jobs using Social Media, advice on how women could use Social Media, and advice for women looking for jobs, is really remarkable and a must see.

So check out Chanelle’s post, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Oh My! Baby Boomer Women Transition Careers Through Social Media

If you missed it, check out Daria Giron’s post from last week, A Glass Ceiling in Social Media?

You can check back here for an overview of the Women & Social Media Series

We hope you’re enjoying this series so far! 🙂

Where are Little People in the Business World?

by Margie Clayman

A few days ago, Danny Brown posted an article called Social Media – It’s not just for white folks. The post was inspired by Jay Baer, who was struck at SXSW by the noticeable lack of non-white people in the crowds. Jay wrote a post cleverly titled Blinded by the White: Social Media and Diversity.

Here on this blog, there has been a lot of conversation about gender and Social Media, and that inspired me to start the Women and Social Media series. But there’s one issue that I don’t think too many people are talking about, and it’s one close to my heart. As a 4’5 woman, I am wondering where the other Little People are in the world of business and Social Media.

Women and Social Media – Daria’s Post is Live!

by Margie Clayman

I am very excited to announce that the Women and Social Media series is officially underway!

Ms. Daria Giron (aka @mominmanagement) has put together an excellent start to this series, and I couldn’t be happier! In her post, Daria explores whether there is a glass ceiling in the world of Social Media. Is it still an environment dominated by men? If so, why?

Without further delay, please check out A Glass Ceiling in Social Media? The first post for Women and Social Media.

For an introduction to this series, please check out the overview!

Women and Social Media – a 7 part exploration

by Margie Clayman

A couple of months ago, Daria (aka @mominmanagement) told me that she was putting together a series on Women and the Executive Image. She wanted to know if I wanted to participate.

Sometimes things happen in your life that are a complete and total blessing, even if you don’t realize the full implications right away. As it happened, Daria’s series, and the other amazing women who participated, opened up a very important dialog about where women are in the business world. Lots of women commented on each post in the series describing their experiences as women in environments traditionally dominated by men.

Inspired by Daria and the conversation she created, I’ve invited seven women to help me write a sequel. This time, the conversation will focus on women and Social Media.

Rather than listening to me talk about this subject, I thought it would be great to bring other women’s voices into the mix. Each of these seven women will post their contribution on their own site, and I will link to it from here. The series will run on Thursdays beginning next week! Here is the line-up you have to look forward to (I can’t wait!)!

How a mantra from Good Will Hunting can change your life

by Margie Clayman

Humans seem naturally wired to ask a single question all of the time: “Is it me?” When we go through a hard time, we automatically start searching for what we did to deserve it. When someone passes away, we think, “Is this because I didn’t sweep off their porch in 1987?” When someone treats us poorly, we think, “Gosh, what did I do to that person?”

To quote Sean from Good Will Hunting, played by Robin Williams, “It’s NOT your fault.”

Why Avatar should have been called The Social Network

by Margie Clayman

Do you ever feel like you are forever behind in movies? Granted, you’re always behind because of all of the movies made before your time – I only recently watched Breakfast at Tiffany’s, for example. However, every year, when the Oscars come and go, I always tell myself, “Man, next year I’m going to see more movies so that I can, well, care.” It doesn’t work. Case in point – I just watched Avatar last night. And uh, well…I still haven’t seen The Social Network. I know, my family thinks this is ridiculous of me too.
