Things you may not know about Margie

Well, Corinne Edwards has been saying for awhile now that I am nebulous. While I blog here pretty much every day, no one really has the whole picture of what I am really all about. Today is Corinne’s lucky day – I’m doing what she wanted and I am telling you a bunch of stuff about, well, me. For future generations, I want to make clear that I am doing this because a friend asked me to. Generally, I find talking about myself to be quite intriguing, but not a spectator sport 😉 I found this old meme from years past, and then there’s some more stuff. That should be all you could ever need to know 🙂

40. Eye color? Brown

41. Do you wear contacts? Glasses

42. Name of pet? Abraham the Fish!

50. What did you watch on TV last night? Nothin.

51. Rolling Stones or Beatles? Beatles!

55. What’s the farthest you have been from home? Hawaii

And more (are you still awake?)

1. One of my favorite shows when I was a super little kid was Love Boat. I named one of my first babydolls Gopher, in fact.

2. If it’s soft, cute, and cuddly, I’m probably allergic to it. I am horribly allergic to cats especially, which breaks my heart because I love cats. I love every kind of cat. I want to hug all of them but I can’t hug every cat.

3. I tend to make up words. Often. The OED could have a field day cataloging words that I make up. Examples include “smush,” “garg” and other more nonsensical sort of sounds that I pretend are words. These do not tend to come across in written communication.

4. When I was little, I had a crush on Rod Stewart. I don’t know if I can ever forgive myself.

5. I used to be semi-fluent in Hebrew and can still sing “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead” in Hebrew (I went to a Jewish private school for five years)

6. In high school, I was on our speech team and found a large amount of success in Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking. This meant that we would draw a current events topic, and then we’d have half an hour to research, write, and memorize a 7 minute speech. I placed fourth in Ohio twice and went to Nationals once, and won the rookie of the year award my freshman year.

7. My secret desire is to be a stand-up comedian. I already have the name set for my first tour – “Yes, I’m Really Standing.” This stems from a comment I got back in my cashier days. A guy came up and asked me if I was going to stand up to ring him up. It’s important to note I *was* standing…on a platform. Also included in this act would be the story of the woman who asked me if I stored my shoes in an index card box. That is the weirdest question I have ever been asked, and I doubt anyone will be able to top it.

8. My other secret desire is to be a philanthropist. I would give so much of my wealth away if I could just get wealthy. That seems to be an important first step.

9. I am an avid fan of 1990s rap music. I can on occasion recite some segments of gangsta rap. For some reason, people find it funny when this mood strikes me.

10. One of my favorite activities is to get together with people at a coffee shop and talk and/or craft.

OK. I think that’s more than enough. Now it’s your turn! Post those questions to YOUR blog!! I think it is only fair you return the favor 🙂

While I won’t be posting this on my site (I seem to be allergic to blogging…aaaachhoo), this was a fun read Margie. I come here more often than I comment and always enjoy your thoughts.
Don’t beat yourself up too much about the Rod Stewart thing and I will try real hard not to let it color my opinion of you. 🙂

    • Margie Clayman on August 12, 2011 at 11:02 pm

Well thanks Rob. I’m very happy to know you’re reading and will only beat you up mildly for not commenting more. On the other hand, you’re trying not to be grossed out that I crushed on Rod Stewart, so…..I guess we’re even 🙂

  5. Melinda on August 12, 2011 at 9:55 am

If you makes you feel better I loved Rod Stewart, too. I think his hair hypnotized us into that. Loved your philanthropist comment. Too funny!

    • Margie Clayman on August 12, 2011 at 11:03 pm

I like that, Melinda. I think I’ll go with that alibi too 🙂

  6. Nancy Davis on August 12, 2011 at 10:27 am

I did a post on random stuff yesterday! Since YOU are over at my blog, I will give you a few more things you may not know about me.

    1. It is really ironic that I make my living on a computer. I got my first email account in 2005
    2. Thanks to Facebook, I reconnected with my best friend from 4th grade (we were friends from 4th grade all the way through high school)
    3. I appeared in our high school fashion show when I was a junior in high school
    4. I always wanted to be a stand u0p comedian, and got to see George Carlin live once. I laughed so much I thought I was going to stop breathing.
    5. As a kid, I memorized commercials off the TV. My son does the exact same thing.
    6. When I was a young girl, my favorite fairytale was Rapunzel. I had long hair and I could relate.
    7. I break things very easily. This is why I date men who can fix stuff. 🙂

I love these posts because we learn so much

    • Margie Clayman on August 12, 2011 at 11:04 pm

Yep, they are a lot of fun. It’s always nice to gather more proof that we’re talking to real 3D people, isn’t it?

      Thanks, Nancy!

  7. Joseph Ruiz (@SMSJOE) on August 12, 2011 at 10:28 am

i like your style still working up the nerve to post on my site. 😉

  8. Corinne Edwards on August 12, 2011 at 11:54 am

Loved it – thanks, Margie –

Some of the questions you made up were hilarious – and of course, since it is you – unique.

    You don’t untie your shoes?

I still like Rod Stewart. Especially his album a year or two on which he sang the oldies. Standards.

I know every word of almost every Beatles songs. Still think they are the best.

I reconnected with a long lost relative on Twitter. No one knew where he was.

I would marry a man who could fix stuff.

We are both Virgos. I am September 8. That explains a lot of why I like you. We could probably be roommates. The picture straighteners – pillow plumpers and garbage dumpers of the world. Perfectionists. That’s why you never see a semicolon in my writing. Never figured it out for sure.

Virgos never do things that are unsafe.

I love commercials. Good ones. Crazy about the little dog on Travelers Insurance.

    Anyway, this post was terrific.

    Thanks for indulging me.

    • Margie Clayman on August 12, 2011 at 11:05 pm

Yes, Virgos do tend to get along well. It’s because we just know we’re so darned awesome. Oops, sounding a bit like a Leo there…:)

Thanks for this idea, Corinne. It was a lot of fun, and for me, I got a chance to learn about a lot of other neat people. I hope this is what you were looking for 🙂

  9. Joseph Ruiz (@SMSJOE) on August 12, 2011 at 1:06 pm

    Ok Margie here’s mine http://bit.ly/oRAKIS

  10. @analogyqueen on August 12, 2011 at 3:35 pm

This is hysterical! Love it. Fun to read. Now I gotta read all your other posts. 🙂

    • Margie Clayman on August 12, 2011 at 11:05 pm

Well, I can’t disagree with your mission there. But don’t feel any pressure 😉

  11. Dawn Westerberg on August 12, 2011 at 4:09 pm

” I enjoy watching football, basketball, and baseball. I do not play in sports as my face magnetically attracts spherical objects.”

Been there, done that, do that… 🙂

    Dawn

    • Margie Clayman on August 12, 2011 at 11:06 pm

Good, I’m glad it’s not just me. It really is uncanny. If there is a ball being thrown anywhere near me, it WILL land in my face at some point. It’s just the way my life is!

  12. Kaarina Dillabough on August 12, 2011 at 4:46 pm

LOL on #38…couldn’t agree more on #51 and I’d pay to come to your stand-up comedy gigs. Loads of fun: thanks for sharing. Cheers! Kaarina

    • Margie Clayman on August 12, 2011 at 11:06 pm

Thanks, Kaarina. Now you should do a post like this so I can learn more about you! 🙂

  13. Jay Adams on August 12, 2011 at 5:23 pm

Aw, thanks Jay! I really appreciate that!

  14. Bobby Clubbs on August 12, 2011 at 10:18 pm

This was a very fun read, Margie!

And as a high school forensics coach, I’m impressed with your Extemp cred! Way to go.

    • Margie Clayman on August 12, 2011 at 11:07 pm

Ah, a fellow NFLer. Awesome!! What events do you coach specifically?

      • Bobby Clubbs on August 14, 2011 at 12:40 am

Margie, I’m at a small school so I’m a “one man show.” I also direct the school plays. Good times.

I did a post a bit like this one on my blog. I may not be what some people think of when they hear the word “farmer.” http://thefarmerslife.wordpress.com/2011/03/22/not-your-stereotypical-farmer/

  16. […] to all my contacts. But some of my friends have been posting this questioner in their blogs (Margie Clayman, Joe Ruiz) Because most of my friends exist online I find appropriate to take time and accept […]

  17. Jeannette Baer on August 13, 2011 at 11:23 pm

That was a lot of fun Margie! getting to know you a bit more. I can’t believe you wanted to be a comedian! that has to be the hardest profession, ever! But my secret desired profession would have been a Musician-My whole life I’ve wanted to play base; If I could do things all over again I would be in music production…Oh and by the way, I hate to brake it to you but Rod Stewart had a crush on me! I could tell they way he looked at me when he appeared on TV…. LOL
I followed your footsteps and also filled the questioner, here is link to my post so you can get to know me as well.
Thanks Margie, this was out of the ordinary & lots of fun!
