A Tweetdiner Idea

July 30, 2011 by Margie Clayman 19 Comments

We are just a few weeks away from winding up the Tweetdiner “Building Your Brand Online” series, and I’ve been pondering what we could do next. People have said that the idea of an “editorial calendar” for chats has been helpful, so I’ve been trying to think of a new series we could do. I finally had an idea pop into my head, and I wanted your feedback.

Tweetdiner: Social Media for Social Good

There’s been a lot of talk about the negative side of the online world lately, but this is a glass half empty kind of view. There’s a lot of great stuff going on. A lot of people are doing great things. I was thinking maybe we could embrace those actions and people in our Tweetdiner community and shine the light on them, learn more about them…and serve them virtual pie for their efforts!

I would want to create a line-up of people who’d be willing to chat with us – they could choose a Google Plus chat (since we know that works for the most part), a Twitter chat, or both if they wanted to.

This series could lead right up into the holiday season, I’m thinking, so that by the time you have that itch to donate to a great organization, you’d have a huge list of groups to think about.

I am open to any and all feedback – this is a very rough draft of an idea. Do you foresee any problems? More to the point, would you or someone you know be willing to talk to a group of mad chatters about what you are doing online to help make the world a better place?

Let’s talk!

This topic is not going away. If anything, it’s becoming more and more prevalent as start ups are surfacing and career employees are taking a leap of faith to join the world of entrepreneurship or small business. Thank you for the idea and putting it out there. I love the idea. I’m so there. Count me in wherever and whenever you decide to move forward with it. G+ hangout is a great way to collaborate, in my opinion, supplemented by Twitter. Thanks Margie!

Margie i think it is a great idea, one challenge would be moving back and forth between the platforms that might be a bit confusing even with broadcasting. I would suggest sticking to Twitter for the chat hour but promoting G + as a way to continue the conversation after the specific hour.

    Thanks for leading the charge.

See, that’s why you’re the guy with the brains. The after-party concept is an awesome one. Thanks, Joe!

I also think this is a great idea and would be happy to see this kind of chat happen. Twitter or G+ it does not matter to me πŸ™‚

    Hey Margie,

I think it’s a great idea as well. I also like chatting occasionally on G+ but perhaps it can be on off nights or as an afterparty. I think it may be worthwhile to have one session to discuss the dark side but along the lines of how to avoid the dark side, how not to “feed the beast” and what are some positive steps that can be taken to help people that have been impacted by the dark side. For example the “It Gets Better” project.

Great idea, Jim. That would take some of the pressure out of trying to find a guest for every single chat, too. You guys are smart!!

This sounds great Margie! Let’s turn these great ideas into action! I’m go go go! G+, Twitter, Facebook, or whatever, time to get rolling. πŸ™‚

I’m also about to get my first adsense paycheck after four fricking years!!!! and would want to donate part of it to anywhere you’d like me to donate it. πŸ™‚ I can even buy some people some real food.

I’ve been dragging my feet participating in anything; but that seems to be my MO as I’m a much better ‘just show up’ kind of guy. However, I would like to see how it progresses and what you put together. I know if Margie is putting it together it’s going to be something good.

Thanks for always finding ways to include your community.

That is so very kind, Bill (and Danny). What a huge honor it is to hear things like that from people I respect. Thank you thank you!

We’re in the process of teaching kids about elections, voting, how the system works through social media.

Going to house them, train them and send them back out to their respective departments with a Flip camera to report on what’s going on. There’s only been free democratic elections since 1996 and this is the fourth one.

Social media does a lot of good for forcing transparency, even if the adult politicians might not respect the medium.

Margie you serve up the best ideas. Social media isn’t the big bad boogey man so many think it is. You’ve got my vote on the series.

I missed last week’s chat on G+ so I don’t know how it went but I was thinking that Twitter chat may still be the more versatile one as compared to G+ for now. Or perhaps even sticking to TweetDiner’s FB page?
