How to be a good Social Media Citizen

October 29, 2010 by Margie Clayman 7 Comments

A lot of what I talk about these days narrows down to how to be a good citizen in the world of Social Media. So, for this weekend’s presentation, I thought I would tell you about the 10 rules I try to follow to make sure I am living up to my own standards of citizenship. I have gotten more rewarding experiences and more enjoyment since I started following these rules. I hope they work for you as well!

“People need to relate to you before they can engage with you…and the best way to get people to relate to you is to be yourself.”

Great words Margie, and great preso. Going to be tweeting this out to the Twitter community on Monday.

I think your preso’s are one of your strongest assets professionally and personally.

    Marjorie,

I’ve been trying to subscribe to your new RSS feed, but for some reason Google Reader is saying that your feed cannot be found. Do you know if there is a problem? Might it be something on my side?

      Aw man.

I think this feedburner thing is bunk :/ unless maybe it interacts poorly with google reader. When I go to feedburner it says it has my feed. I don’t know what the problem could be. I’ll work on it.

      Thanks for letting me know!

Thanks so much for this great advice! I am working on figuring out twitter and using it for my blog and I can already see the mistakes I’ve made. I no longer feel like I am afloat on the ocean alone! I’ll be back to read more.

For the past six months this vintage soul has been working on the technology and language of Twitter. Yes I grew up without Television and a telephone. When I started with twitter I struggled. I started getting followers by putting out my wise sayings I have collected over the years. My name GrandmaOnDeck fir with the sayings.People started following me for the sayings or my passion for fastpitch softball. Then I stumbled upon your blog post. Just like this blog you led others by sharing what you had learned, and I thank you for that. Now I find I am on a sort of plateau thinking what more can I do. Do you have a suggestion for time management of twitter?

I mentioned that question of yours in a post recently…did you see it? 🙂

What aspects of time management do you want to talk about?
