Say Hello to Livefyre

Hello lovely readers,

I wanted to alert you that this site will be using LiveFyre as the commenting system now instead of the default WordPress system. I have been exposed to LiveFyre via many blogs I respect a great deal, including those belong to 12most, Gini Dietrich, Danny Brown, and Jay Baer.

There are some things I am concerned about that I will be monitoring, but I want you to feel free to offer me feedback too. If this system will make it harder for you to comment or if you have other issues, please let me know. Obviously I can’t make everyone happy (lord do I try!) but I will do my best to make as many of you as comfortable as possible.

Sound good?

@JMattHicks you’d better believe it, sir. Thanks πŸ™‚

Congrats on becoming a fellow Livefyre user, I put on Livefyre about 3 weeks ago on my site and though there are a few hiccups from features lacking I have seen several pros from using the commenting system.

    • margieclayman on October 3, 2011 at 6:04 pm

@Dragon Blogger Thank you! I am excited. Hopefully that feeling will continue forever and ever and ever πŸ™‚

As you know Margie, I trust you and may soon follow you into Livefyre – I know you wouldn’t recommend anything you didn’t carefully evaluate first. I’ll start watching commencing with this comment and responding to your request, I’ll let you know if I see any issues

Hi Margie…I know I am very new to your community but I have to say that I am so glad that you are going to give @livefyre a try. The engagement level within the community on your blog is quite wonderful and Livefyre will allow the “conversation” to flow and continue more seamlessly…at least that is one person’s opinion πŸ˜‰ I will be interested in hearing what you think about it after you’ve used it for awhile.

@SocialMediaDDS Hi Claudia, yeah, that is one thing I’ve found attractive about it when I have used it as a commenter on other sites. I also wanted to make it easier for my guest bloggers to monitor comments – there wasn’t an easy way to do that using the regular WordPress commenting system. We shall see how it goes – I’m glad to hear you’re on board πŸ™‚

  5. mikestenger on October 3, 2011 at 3:12 pm

Great to hear Margie! I’ve used Livefyre since the very beginning, actually used it before it was a commenting system πŸ™‚

They have an awesome team behind it, got to personally meet and hangout with them.

    • JMattHicks on October 3, 2011 at 5:40 pm

@mikestenger Mike truly is a Livefyre OG, a very big part of our community from the start. His blog was one of our first, so we’ll always have love for Ohio’s finest! πŸ˜‰

      • mikestenger on October 3, 2011 at 6:14 pm

@JMattHicks Thanks dude. Welcome to the family @margieclayman πŸ™‚

    • margieclayman on October 3, 2011 at 6:01 pm

@mikestenger Hi Mike! Yeah, those Livefyre peeps have been sweet-talking me for awhile. I finally caved. What can I say? I’m a sucker for being sweet-talked πŸ™‚

      • JMattHicks on October 3, 2011 at 6:18 pm

        @margieclayman@mikestenger MARGIE.

        “A background in history…”

What type of history do you/did you/are you studying!? I LOVE HISTORY. I started an M.A. in American History 2 months ago. It’s been an absolute blast.

I LOVE (mid to late) 18th century American History, but I’m also a sucker for 1940’s and the Vietnam War.

        • margieclayman on October 3, 2011 at 9:50 pm

@JMattHicks I did my MA on Phyllis Wheatley, an African American slave woman who wrote poetry in the 1770s in the US. Well, the colonies I should say. But my great love is the Civil War era πŸ™‚

        • JMattHicks on October 4, 2011 at 3:08 pm

@margieclayman Very cool stuff πŸ™‚ I’m taking a course on the Civil War not next semester but the following, I’m pretty pumped about it. I’m a military buff, and that’s definitely a draw to it for me, but I’m really interested in the social and political facts of the time.

You know, being from the South, people still try to tell me I’m wrong about the cause of the war. Hey, only one way to found out the real cause, right? πŸ™‚ I’ll keep you in the loop on those studies!

I have little or no opinion on the commenting systems. If I can stop by, comment and hit post then I’m probably good to go. However, if the people you mentioned are using it, that sounds like a pretty credible group to me. If I felt my system was limiting and looking to make a change, the first thing I would do is see who is using what. But that’s how I roll………….just sayin’………….

    • Dragon Blogger on October 3, 2011 at 8:52 pm

@bdorman264 This is the 1 major weakness of Livefyre right now, Default WordPress commenting, Disqus and such allow for anonymous or guest commenting without registration. Livefyre desperately needs to allow people to leave comments without registration and it is hurting my own commenting as a result.

    • margieclayman on October 3, 2011 at 9:51 pm

@bdorman264 I am worried about the registration aspect. If I find that some of my most loyal community members aren’t posting, I will go back to the regular system of commenting. Making it easy is a very important goal for me when it comes to my readers πŸ™‚

I just switched from LiveFyre back to WP’s native system. I like LF very much but received a bunch of emails recently that made me wonder if I am losing commenters because of difficulties with it.

So I am running the opposite test. I may very well reconnect it, but I need to wait a while and see how it goes. But to be clear, I do think it is a very good system.

    • JMattHicks on October 4, 2011 at 3:06 pm

@TheJackB We definitely hate to see ya go Jack, hope to see you back soon! If you have any questions or feedback, let us know. We’re always happy to hear your thoughts and help with any questions!

      • TheJackB on October 4, 2011 at 4:04 pm

@JMattHicks Jeremy, one of my favorite things about LiveFyre is the service/support. You guys do an excellent job with that. I may very well turn it back on.

        • JMattHicks on October 4, 2011 at 4:45 pm

@TheJackB We sure do appreciate the kinds words, it’s our pleasure. πŸ™‚

  8. Chloe Jeffreys on October 4, 2011 at 8:25 am

Hi, my name is Chloe. I was brought here by JackB.

After fiddling around with commenting systems, I’m back to my default and I’m still not 100% happy with it. I have readers over on FB who tell me (over on FB) that they can’t figure out how to comment or that they get error messages.

But I’ll be watching your experiment.

    • JMattHicks on October 4, 2011 at 3:12 pm

@Chloe Jeffreys I’ve got to say that I’ve never met a Chloe I didn’t like. The first that comes to mind is my best friend’s sister’s little one, she’s probably the coolest 2 year-old on the planet right now. I also knew a Chloe at church camp that was an incredible singer. #tuesdayfunfacts

But anyways, definitely let me know if you have any questions about Livefyre. We’ve put in a lot of time into working out some of the kinks, and we’re still developing ways to smooth out the commenting process and add new features. We’re always here if you need anything, so don’t hesitate to let us know πŸ™‚

  9. patricksplace on October 4, 2011 at 5:35 pm

I think Livefyre is the best choice out there. I’ve received more comments to my blog since installing it, and I wouldn’t dream of going back to the default system. And I must say, the few times I’ve had issues, the support has been incredible. I’m beginning to think those guys and gals never sleep at all!

  10. ginidietrich on October 4, 2011 at 9:48 pm

HAHAHAHAH! Just remember, I asked them to marry me first.

  11. janwong on October 6, 2011 at 1:37 am

Hmm I’ve been thinking about switching to LiveFyre myself but haven’t got myself to do it. Let me know how it goes for you πŸ™‚

  12. b.nijhoff on October 12, 2011 at 3:12 am

I really like livefyre I already use it like 3 weeks now and I haven’t had a problem with it. It doesn’t make it harder to comment it makes it even easier πŸ˜‰

  13. michellectoms on November 16, 2011 at 10:20 pm

Congrats, I put on Livefyre about 3 weeks ago on my site and though there are a few hiccups from features lacking I have seen several pros from using the commenting system.

  14. 3dmodelsart on December 5, 2011 at 7:37 am

Livefyre is a great project, managed by a professional team. I’m using it from the beggining and can’t say anything bad about it. So you made a good decision Marie with switching to it πŸ˜‰

    • JMattHicks on December 5, 2011 at 12:58 pm

@3dmodelsart You see, but what @margieclayman didn’t tell you was that I slipped her a benjamin for the switch…in college football they call that “pay for play” and it comes with stiff penalties, often in the form of reduced scholarships, vacating wins, or worse.

Thanks goodness this isn’t college football πŸ˜‰
